Emergency responders in Kaduna South have successfully contained a compressed gas tanker leak, averting a potential disaster.
Usman Mazadu, the Executive Secretary of KADSEMA, confirmed that a joint operation with the Kaduna State Fire and Public Safety Agency brought the situation fully under control.
The incident was first reported to emergency services, which led to a rapid response involving a multi-agency team that quickly secured the area. Emergency officials conducted continuous cooling operations to stabilize the tanker, prevent explosions, and divert traffic to keep pedestrians and motorists safe from harm.
Mazadu told the News Agency of Nigeria in Kaduna that emergency responders jointly contained a compressed gas tanker leak.
He noted the agency received a distress call on Sunday, July 19, 2026, and responded alongside the Kaduna State Fire and Public Safety Agency.
He said emergency responders secured the scene, while cooling operations were ongoing to stabilise the tanker and prevent any escalation.
He said, “No casualty or injury was recorded, and the tanker driver escaped unharmed.”
Mazadu advised motorists and pedestrians to avoid the Nnamdi Azikiwe Bypass near Unguwan Mu’azu until emergency officials declared the area safe.
He said traffic had been diverted to alternative routes to facilitate emergency operations and protect road users.
Mazadu commended residents for their cooperation and urged them to comply with the directives of emergency personnel until the operation was concluded.
