The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), the Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC), Ganye Local Government Council and security agencies, has conducted a joint assessment of communities affected by flood and thunderstorm disasters in Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The assessment followed the flood and thunderstorm incidents that occurred on 23rd and 25th July 2026.
In response, the Head of Operations, NEMA Yola Operations Office, Mr Ladan Ayuba, deployed a joint assessment team to determine the extent of the damage and identify the immediate humanitarian needs of the affected communities.
The team paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Ganye Local Government Area, Hon. Daniel Kambobbi Nenhem, where it conveyed the sympathies of the Director General of NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar, to the government and people of the area before proceeding to the affected communities.
The assessment covered Gaugminoni Luggere, Pess, Old Market Ganye, Guding I and II, Gurumpawo District, Sanjenlu, Timlomi, Naboken, Garanda, Sampassumi, Garum, Gangshariya and Gangdona communities.
Findings revealed that 1,902 persons from 317 households were affected by the disasters.
A total of 212 houses were partially damaged, while 69 houses were destroyed.
Approximately 500 farmlands were also affected. The incidents claimed six lives and left two persons injured. NEMA assured the affected communities that the findings of the assessment would guide the Agency’s response and reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Adamawa State Government and other stakeholders to provide timely humanitarian assistance to those affected.
