The Anambra State Police Command says it has commenced a manhunt for a teacher who allegedly flogged a 12-year-old student, leading to his death at Adazi-Ani in Anaocha Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
Ikenga said the search operation was activated through the police’s Safe School Initiative Operations, led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, ACP Harrison Oruruo.
Ikenga said the team was mandated to locate the teacher allegedly involved in the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable faces justice.
He said, “The team will, among others, commence a manhunt for a teacher who allegedly flogged a 12-year-old student, resulting in the victim’s death at a school in Adazi-Ani, Anaocha Local Government Area of the State.”
According to him, the incident was reported on the evening of July 16, 2026, after which police operatives attached to the Neni Division responded and rushed the victim to a hospital.
He said, “On receipt of the report in the evening of July 16, 2026, Police operatives attached to Neni Division responded promptly and rushed the victim to a Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor while receiving treatment.”

The police spokesperson added that the deceased’s remains had been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
He further stated that photographs of the victim were taken, with preliminary observations showing visible marks of violence on different parts of his body.
Ikenga said the matter was under active investigation, assuring that necessary measures were being taken to bring the suspect to justice.
“To this end, the Command has expressed deep concern over the tragic incident and assured the family of the deceased and members of the public that the Command will conduct a thorough, diligent, and transparent investigation,” he said.
