Nigerian social media personality, VeryDarkMan, has responded to widespread claims that singer Davido played a role in his rise and contributed to his NGO.
According to an online news platform, VeryDarkMan first grew close to Davido in October 2023 after the singer invited him to Lagos State.
At the time, VeryDarkMan had praised Davido for the lavish treatment he received, saying in a video that he wanted to take his audience on a tour to show them the room the singer had booked for him in Lagos, urging people not to underestimate him.
However, speaking nearly three years after their initial bond and following a recent fallout between them, VeryDarkMan reversed his earlier claims, explaining that the widely held public narrative had merely been for entertainment purposes.
Denying that he ever gained financially from his association with Davido, the controversial figure said the singer neither sponsored his flight nor paid for his hotel stay in Lagos, adding that he also never received any donation from Davido for his NGO.
He explained that whenever he made comments about Davido, or when people close to the singer recorded such statements, the public would often respond by pointing to everything Davido had supposedly done for him flying him to Lagos and contributing to his NGO.
He said he wanted to set the record straight, revealing that he personally funded his own flight ticket and hotel accommodation during the Lagos visit, but that the narrative was simply allowed to circulate for entertainment purposes.
He further denied ever receiving any contribution from Davido toward his NGO, stating that he never made such a request and that it was Davido who had merely expressed an intention to help, which never materialised.
He challenged people to ask Davido directly whether he had ever collected as much as N1,000 from him, given how long the singer has known him.
