Nigerian social media users have been reacting after content creator Ogechi Ukonu, popularly known as Caramel Plug, accused Nollywood actress Anita Joseph of allegedly editing her face out of birthday photos and replacing it with her own.
The controversy began weeks after Caramel shared a stunning birthday photoshoot featuring herself in a series of stylish and elegant poses. She celebrated the occasion with a heartfelt message, expressing gratitude and faith in God’s plan for her life.
In her birthday post, she wrote:
“Happy Birthday Ogechi Ukonu 🎉🎊🥂 And just as Esther’s life was in Alignment with Gods purpose, so will Mine continue to be…God is good! & I will definitely be shaking my nyash todayyy for sure! 😁🥂.”
The photos initially attracted attention without any controversy until they resurfaced days later on Anita Joseph’s page but this time, Caramel’s face had reportedly been replaced with the actress’ face.
Anita shared the edited image alongside the caption: “A woman cannot submit and be in survival mode at the same time.”
She also engaged with comments under the post in a way that gave some followers the impression that she was the person originally featured in the photos.
Reacting to the development, Caramel took to Snapchat to express her shock over the situation. Her post quickly gained traction online, especially because she revealed that she and Anita Joseph had no personal or social media relationship.
“You don’t even follow me on any socials, we don’t know each other. Anita, you removed my head from my picture and inserted your head in it and posted it publicly,” Caramel wrote.
The incident has sparked conversations among social media users, with many debating whether the situation was an intentional act of misrepresentation or simply a misunderstanding.
