Gov. Adeleke Orders Withdrawal of EFCC Suit Over Frozen Osun Account, After Tinubu’s Intervention

- Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has withdrawn the legal action against the EFCC over the freezing of the state government’s bank account after President Bola Tinubu intervened in the matter.
- Adeleke said he had instructed the state Attorney General to discontinue the case, praising Tinubu for reaching out to him after his election victory.
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the withdrawal of the legal action filed against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the freezing of the state government’s bank account.
Adeleke disclosed that President Bola Tinubu intervened in the dispute and contacted him after his victory in the August 15 governorship election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the governor said he had instructed the state Attorney General to discontinue the case.
“I’m putting them behind. What else do I want? I have instructed my Attorney General to drop it. Mr. President has done well. He called me. What more do I want?” Adeleke said.
The governor had earlier challenged the EFCC’s decision to restrict the state government’s account, accusing the anti-graft agency of taking politically motivated action.
He had also expressed concerns that the restriction could affect the operations of the state government.
The account was reportedly frozen shortly before the governorship election, with the timing of the EFCC action generating controversy.
Adeleke also addressed reports that some of his supporters and government officials had been invited by the EFCC for questioning. He said he had mobilised his lawyers to assist those involved.
“Well, we have been talking. I have been calling all my lawyers to go there. I’m sure the APC in Osun, according to them, they are telling us they are using federal might,” he said.
Following Tinubu’s intervention, Adeleke’s decision to withdraw the suit brings the legal dispute between the Osun State Government and the EFCC over the frozen account to an end.
