NANS seeks urgent probe into delayed graduation of 100 LASU students

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC), Lagos State, has called for an immediate investigation into the reported delay in the graduation of more than 100 students of Lagos State University (LASU) over allegedly missing results dating back to their 300 Level.
The students are said to have completed their academic requirements but are unable to graduate because some results have reportedly not been uploaded by a lecturer, according to a statement issued by the NANS JCC Lagos chairman, Comr. Quadri Ishola Odewunmi.
NANS said it was treating the matter with concern because, if verified, the students could face an additional academic year over an issue outside their control. Such a delay, the association noted, could impose further financial costs on the affected students and interfere with plans tied to their graduation.

Odewunmi said the students should not bear the consequences of an administrative or academic lapse for which they were not responsible.
He called on LASU management and the relevant academic authorities to establish the facts surrounding the outstanding results and review the academic records of all students affected.
NANS also asked the university to process and upload any legitimate results found to be outstanding, while ensuring that students are not required to spend another academic year if the delay is traced to an institutional failure.
The students, the association said, should also receive a clear account of their academic status and the measures being taken to resolve the matter.
NANS JCC Lagos further proposed an expedited mechanism for settling the issue. It cited the possible consequences for the students’ graduation and future opportunities.
The association’s intervention places the reported results dispute within a larger question of how academic records are processed before final-year students are cleared for graduation. For students who have completed their required courses, an unresolved result can affect not only their academic status but also access to employment, postgraduate opportunities, and other plans dependent on proof of graduation.
Odewunmi said NANS JCC Lagos would engage LASU authorities, seek clarification, and pursue legitimate channels to resolve the matter.
He also asked the affected students to provide relevant information and documentation that could assist the association’s engagement with the university.
The NANS chairman said the association would stand with the students as the matter is examined, emphasising that their academic effort should not be frustrated by a process beyond their control.
The allegations have not been independently verified from LASU management in the material provided, and the university has not given its account of the reported delay.
