Thief Caught Stealing Money To Buy Phone Forced To Carry Cement Blocks As Punishment
A young man has sparked reactions online after he was reportedly caught stealing ₦250,000, which he allegedly intended to use to purchase a mobile phone.
According to reports accompanying a video circulating online, the unidentified man was apprehended after allegedly taking the money.
During an interrogation, he reportedly confessed to stealing the amount and revealed that his intention was to use it to buy a phone.
In the video, the young man is seen sitting on the ground with his hands tied behind his back while two heavy blocks of cement were placed on his head as a form of punishment.
Those around him were heard questioning him over his actions as he remained in the uncomfortable position.
The incident has generated mixed reactions on social media. While some people expressed disappointment over the alleged theft and called for accountability, others criticised the punishment method, arguing that suspects should be handed over to the appropriate authorities instead of being subjected to public humiliation or physical punishment.
Cases of mob punishment and public shaming of suspected thieves continue to generate debate, with many calling for communities to allow the police and the justice system to handle criminal allegations.
The identity of the young man and the location of the incident have not been confirmed.
It is also unclear whether he was later handed over to the police.
