President Bola Tinubu has ordered Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies to begin an immediate rescue operation for victims of the recent mass abduction in Niger State.
The directive was given on Tuesday, 25 August, with the Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services and other relevant agencies instructed to coordinate the operation.
Tinubu also directed the Service Chiefs to provide him with regular updates until all the abducted persons are accounted for.
The order comes after an attack in which innocent citizens were abducted and some others killed by criminal elements in the state.

The President condemned the attack and said those responsible would not escape justice.
“I am outraged by the abduction and killing of innocent citizens by criminal elements in the state,” Tinubu said.
He also described those behind the attack as “enemies of peace and enemies of humanity”.
Service Chiefs to report rescue progress
The President’s directive places the rescue of the abducted victims at the heart of the security response, with the Service Chiefs expected to keep him informed of developments until all those taken are accounted for.
Tinubu said the government would not stop working until the victims were safely returned to their families.
“We will not rest until your sons, daughters, mothers and fathers are brought back safely to you,” he said.
The President also sent condolences to families who lost relatives in the attack and prayed for those killed.
He said the government would stand with the people of Niger State and the state government as security agencies work to deal with the situation.
Tinubu said the Federal Government would provide support for recovery, relief and additional security.
The President also sought to reassure residents that the country would continue to protect its citizens.
“Terror will not cow Nigeria. We will defend our people, protect our communities, and uphold the sanctity of human life,” he said.
Tinubu said his prayers were with the people of Niger State following the attack and told affected families that they were not alone.
“The entire nation shares your anguish,” he said.
