The Osun State Police Command has explained that the arrest of the Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin, was in connection with a shooting incident that occurred during a political rally in Ilesa on Saturday.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, said men suspected to be Amotekun personnel opened fire at the rally, causing panic and forcing participants to flee.
According to Ojelabi, some personnel of Amotekun who were inside a vehicle with plate number OSHAO4 allegedly came out of the car and shot sporadically.
The police spokesperson said one of the Amotekun personnel who was caught by some of the people participating in the rally, allegedly drew a knife and escaped a dding that the matter was reported to the police, with the tactical teams deployed to the area.
“On getting to the scene, they saw a vehicle that was approaching them, a white Lexus 350. On intercepting the vehicle, they saw an Amotekun personnel in the vehicle. So they apprehended the vehicle, the personnel and one other person in the vehicle,” he said.
Ojelabi said the other person in the Jeep was Hon. Anjorin, adding that they were taken to the police headquarters for questioning.

“They brought them for questioning to know the level of involvement in this incident because the exhibits recovered at the scene of that shooting are four expended cartridges, and the gun recovered from the Amotekun is a pump-action gun. So the investigation is ongoing,” he added.
The PPRO said three persons were confirmed injured in the incident and were taken to different hospitals.
“From the reports we have, they were shot at the rally scene,” he stated.
NAIJAONPOINT report that the arrest of Adejoorin, who is also a leader of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s campaign in Obokun Local Government, was earlier condemned by the Imole Campaign Council.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the council alleged that the Commissioner was blocked while driving out of Ilesa by men acting under the authority of the Inspector General of Police. It added that his driver and security personnel were humiliated before he was taken away without any offence disclosed.
