Woman Allegedly Sets Rented Apartment Ablaze After Accusing Boyfriend of Cheating (Video)

A young woman allegedly threatened her boyfriend with a knife and set their rented apartment on fire after accusing him of cheating.
The incident reportedly occurred in Kabusa Gardens Estate, Abuja over the weekend.
A resident of the estate, Kels, who narrated the incident in a Facebook post on Tuesday explained that trouble started when the man returned home late.
The couple had a heated argument after she accused him of cheating on her with another woman.
Following the argument, the woman allegedly threatened him with a knife but he managed to escape, locking the door behind him.
The woman allegedly dismantled the air conditioning unit in the apartment, gathered all the man’s personal belongings and set them on fire.
Not done, she poured fuel all over the apartment and set it on fire.
Estate security and residents quickly mobilized to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to mother parts of the property.
According to her, the couple has been living in the estate for barely five months and security personnel had previously intervened in a similar violent confrontation between them last month.
“GUYS… WHAT HAPPENED IN MY ESTATE TWO NIGHTS AGO IS STILL SHOCKING ME!,” she wrote.
So, around 1:00 a.m., in Kabusa Gardens Estate, Abuja, two young lovers—apparently boyfriend and girlfriend—had an argument that escalated into something I honestly cannot explain.
The guy, who is about 26, reportedly came home around midnight, and somehow the girlfriend, who is about 22, accused him of cheating.
Before anyone could say “please, calm down”, this girl allegedly picked up a knife and started chasing the guy around the house!
The guy ran out of the apartment and shut the door behind him.
Now, here is where things became crazy.
The apartment had a jam-lock, and the key was outside with the guy. So the girl was locked inside.
You would think she would sit down and calm herself.
NOPE. According to what we gathered, the first thing she did was pull down the indoor AC unit.
Then she apparently gathered the guy’s box and belongings and took them towards the backyard.
And then… SHE BROUGHT OUT FUEL. At this point, I’m sure everyone is thinking the same thing:
“Surely she’s not about to do what I think she’s about to do.”
She allegedly started pouring fuel and setting fire to things inside the apartment—the chairs, couch and other items.
Before long, THE HOUSE WAS ON FIRE. Remember, this was around 1 a.m. People were sleeping.
Estate security had to mobilise immediately, residents came out, and everyone was trying to contain the situation before the fire spread to other parts of the property.
Thankfully, the fire was eventually put out. But wait…THIS WAS NOT EVEN THEIR FIRST DRAMA!
About a month earlier, on 7 July, the same couple reportedly had another violent confrontation.
The girl was allegedly chasing the guy with a knife and physically fighting him. The estate security team had to intervene, and I was actually part of the team that went there.
We got to the compound/terrace area and helped separate them.
After everything calmed down, they reportedly promised that they would stop fighting and that the matter would not happen again.
Fast-forward barely one month later…SHE ALLEGEDLY SET THE HOUSE ON FIRE.
And the part that really gets me? IT IS NOT EVEN THEIR HOUSE! It is a rented duplex.
They have reportedly been living in the estate for barely five months.
So imagine being a landlord, sleeping peacefully, only to wake up and discover that your tenants have turned your property into a fire incident because of a relationship quarrel.
The young man is also believed by some residents to be involved in internet fraud, although that is only an allegation and I cannot independently confirm it. But honestly, forget all that for a minute.
The bigger issue is how quickly a relationship disagreement can escalate from “Where were you?” to knife chasing, and eventually to setting an entire rented apartment on fire.
And because this happened in the middle of the night, it could have ended much worse—not just for the couple, but for innocent neighbours and other properties around them.
One thing is certain: this was no longer “couple’s fight.” It became a serious threat to lives and property.
Abeg, some relationships need counselling. Some need boundaries. And some… need Jesus, police, and several kilometres of distance.
