A lady has sparked discussion online after sharing her thoughts on the state of feminism on social media, arguing that the movement has gradually become more focused on online identity than creating meaningful change.
In a statement directed at personalities including Obidi, Izzy, and others, she questioned the growing trend of publicly identifying as a feminist without actively educating, supporting, or empowering other women.
According to her, feminism should go beyond social media posts, hashtags and loud declarations, stressing that genuine advocacy should be reflected in actions and the positive impact it has on women.
“Feminism has become a niche on social media instead of being a movement or having impact. You don’t have to shout ‘be a feminist’ to be a true feminist who teaches other women what feminism is,” she said.
Her remarks have since generated reactions, with some social media users agreeing that feminism should be centred on tangible impact, while others believe that online advocacy remains an important tool for raising awareness and encouraging conversations around women’s rights.
