A Nigerian lady has shared an awkward experience she allegedly had with a man following an expensive dinner date.
The lady, who spoke during an appearance on the Whotpocast, revealed that the man spent over ₦180,000 during their date before allegedly driving towards his house instead of taking her home.
According to her, she made it clear that she was not interested in going to his house that night. She said the man subsequently pulled over and told her to order an Uber, claiming he would not be able to take her home.
Recounting the incident, she said:
“I once went on a dinner date with a guy, and after the date, he started driving me to his house instead of taking me home. I told him I wasn’t going to his house that night, so he pulled over and told me to order an Uber because he wouldn’t be able to drive me home.
He had spent over ₦180k on the date, and maybe that made him think I would automatically follow him home. My Uber hadn’t even arrived before he drove off.”
The lady suggested that the amount spent on the date may have influenced the man’s expectations, but maintained that paying for dinner did not mean she was obligated to go home with him.
Her account has generated reactions online, with social media users sharing different opinions about dating, boundaries and expectations.
While some questioned why the man allegedly drove away before her Uber arrived, others noted that spending money on a date should not be seen as an entitlement to intimacy.
The incident has also renewed conversations around dating etiquette and the importance of respecting personal boundaries, regardless of how much money is spent during a date.
