President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has celebrated businessman and financial sector leader, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, on his 60th birthday, commending his contributions to Nigeria’s banking industry, financial markets and public service.
In a special tribute issued on Thursday, President Tinubu described Aig-Imoukhuede as one of a generation of Nigerians who took bold bets on the country and demonstrated that Nigerian institutions could compete at the highest levels.
The President highlighted Aig-Imoukhuede’s tenure at Access Bank, where he became Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer in 2002 and led the bank through a period of significant growth.
According to Tinubu, Aig-Imoukhuede currently serves as Chairman of Access Holdings Plc and Coronation Group.
He also commended the celebrant’s contributions to the development of Nigeria’s financial markets, noting that he had served as President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange and founding Chairman of FMDQ Securities Exchange.
The President added that Aig-Imoukhuede currently serves as Co-Chairman of EnterpriseNGR.
Tinubu further acknowledged the businessman’s involvement in public service, particularly his appointment in 2012 as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on the Verification and Reconciliation of Fuel Subsidy Payments.
He described the assignment as a difficult responsibility undertaken at an important time for the country.
The President also praised the contributions of Aig-Imoukhuede and his wife, Ofovwe, through the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation.
He said the foundation had invested in improving public service, preparing public servants for greater responsibilities and supporting better healthcare.
“I am pleased that after considerable success in private enterprise, Aigboje continues to devote his experience and resources to the progress of our country,” Tinubu said.
The President described the celebrant’s 60th birthday as an important milestone and an opportunity to reflect on a career that had touched many institutions and opened doors for many people.
“I join Ofovwe, their children, family, friends and associates in celebrating him today,” he said.
Tinubu wished Aig-Imoukhuede good health, happiness and many more years of service to Nigeria and humanity.
“Happy 60th birthday, Aigboje,” the President added.
