Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has said he began “casting out demons” at the age of 17, recalling his early involvement in spiritual activities.
Okpebholo made the disclosure during a church service at The Votage Church, where he spoke about his experiences as a teenager and his encounters with what he described as spiritual battles and cultism.
Addressing young worshippers at the service, the governor said seeing them in church reminded him of his own experiences as a teenager.
“When I see young ones standing in the presence of God, I remember at 17, 18, I had also started casting out demons,” Okpebholo said.
He said his experiences growing up had given him an understanding of some of the challenges confronting young people, particularly insecurity and cult-related activities.
“Fighting insecurity, especially cultism, is not a new thing to me. It is something that has been happening,” he added.
The governor also recalled the influence of the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa on his spiritual background.
The lead pastor of the church described Okpebholo’s visit as an opportunity to appreciate his commitment to the people and pray for the progress of Edo State.
The pastor also stressed the importance of leaders seeking spiritual guidance while encouraging continued efforts towards peace and development in the state.
In a statement issued after the service, The Votage Church said it was honoured to host the governor, adding that prayers were offered for the peace, progress and prosperity of Edo State.
