Tension has gripped Ile-Ife, Osun State, following the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Ajagungbade Emir, who was reportedly shot dead on Sunday by suspected hoodlums in a dispute over control of a garage in the ancient city.
The killing has prompted Osun State governor Ademola Adeleke, to order the immediate arrest of all those involved and direct security agencies to restore normalcy across motor parks and affected areas.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke also directed warring groups to immediately vacate the motor parks and ordered the establishment of a Park Management System with immediate effect.
The governor charged the Commissioner of Police to act immediately and ensure that all those involved in the killing are arrested and brought to book.
“Law and order must be maintained. There will be no sacred cows as all culprits will be brought to book,” Adeleke said.
He further directed security agencies to restore normalcy across the motor parks and ensure the maintenance of law and order across the state.
The governor also announced plans to issue an Executive Order for the establishment of a Park Management System aimed at restoring discipline and orderliness across motor parks and garages in Osun.
Adeleke called on members of the public to remain calm, assuring them that the government would ensure the restoration of peace in all affected parks and areas.
“We will ensure restoration of peace in all the affected parks and areas. The security agencies are under instruction to ensure the sustainability of peace at all costs,” he said.
Adeleke added, “We are reintroducing the Park Management System. I will soon issue an executive order to give effect to the new management system to manage parks and garages across the state.”
