A video showing NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, laughing hysterically after a journalist said Nigerians wanted her to resign over fake products in circulation has sparked reactions online.
In the trending clip, the journalist raised public concern over the presence of counterfeit and substandard products in the country and pointed to calls for Adeyeye’s resignation.
The video surfaced a day after the NAFDAC boss publicly rejected calls for her removal during an engagement with journalists in Lagos.
Adeyeye said she returned to Nigeria after spending decades in the United States because she wanted to serve and help restore the agency’s reputation. She also defended her record at NAFDAC, highlighting reforms, debt repayments and the agency’s improved international regulatory standing.
The development has also come amid NAFDAC’s intensified crackdown on fake products. The agency said it received 225 suspected counterfeit-product complaints in August, while it has secured 64 convictions for counterfeiting offences, with some offenders receiving prison sentences of up to seven years.
Reacting to the viral video, Nigerians questioned Adeyeye’s laughter and demanded stronger reassurance from the agency.
@EmefieleSilva: This is nonesense she has failed Nigerians. So many fake products here and there in circulation. But in a real sense she should resign and go home. Let someone capable to do the work.
