Adeyanju Reacts To ‘Violent Attack’ On Sowore In Ekiti

Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has condemned the reported attack on the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, in Ekiti State.
He subsequently called on security agencies to investigate the incident and ensure his safety with immediate effect.
Adeyanju said he received information about the attack from one of Sowore’s aides, expressing concern over reports that the police officer attached to the activist was disarmed during the incident.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Friday, Adeyanju described the incident as an act of political intimidation and demanded that those responsible be brought to justice.
“I strongly condemn this brazen act of violence and political intimidation. There is absolutely no place for such lawlessness in a democracy,” he wrote.
He added, “I call on the relevant security agencies to immediately investigate the incident, ensure Mr Sowore’s safety and bring all those responsible to justice.”
Similarly, the Sowore/Magashi Presidential Election Campaign has called on security agencies to urgently establish Sowore’s whereabouts following the reported attack on him and members of his campaign team in Ekiti State.
The campaign organisation said the incident occurred at about 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2026, adding that Sowore’s whereabouts remained unknown after the attack.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Abdulkareem Musa, the campaign expressed grave concern over the incident and demanded immediate intervention by the relevant authorities.
“The whereabouts of Omoyele Sowore is currently unknown following the attack. The full circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, but we consider this development a serious security concern and therefore demand the immediate attention of the relevant authorities,” the statement said.
It called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other federal and state security agencies to establish what happened and ensure the safety of Sowore and his team.
The campaign council also demanded an immediate security assessment, protective measures and a thorough investigation into the incident.
“The authorities must not wait for a tragedy before taking preventive action,” the campaign said.
Condemning political violence and intimidation, the organisation maintained that electoral activities should not expose citizens to attacks.
“Let it be unequivocally stated: Politics and elections are not warfare. No political actor or party has the right to engage violence, intimidation or attacks on citizens exercising their democratic rights,” the statement added.
The campaign warned that any harm to Sowore or members of his team would be unacceptable, insisting that it would demand accountability from the relevant authorities.
Sowore was reportedly abducted on Friday after armed men stormed Tawakalitu Restaurants and Catering Services in Ado-Ekiti, where he was said to be during campaign-related activities.
This was disclosed in a brief statement posted on his official Facebook page on Friday, saying the attack occurred inside a restaurant.
“Armed thugs kidnap Sowore. His current location is unknown!” a post on his Facebook page read.
Meanwhile, the Ekiti State Police Command has not issued any official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
