astor Sarah Omakwu has questioned what Nigerians have to celebrate as the country marks its 66th Independence anniversary.
The Senior Pastor of Family Worship Centre, Abuja, expressed disappointment over the state of the country while reacting to the government’s economic situation and Nigeria’s reported efforts to seek external financial support.
She said: “There’s Nothing To Celebrate. At 66, What Are We Celebrating? Imagine This Government Going To The UN To Beg For Money. It Was So Shameful, And It Pained Me To My Bones.”
Her remarks have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some Nigerians praising her for speaking openly about the country’s challenges.
One user said she was speaking out at a time when many respected Nigerians had chosen to remain silent, while another questioned why pastors were becoming increasingly involved in political discussions.
Omakwu is the Senior Pastor of Family Worship Centre and President of Family Ministries International. The church’s official website identifies her as its current senior pastor.
The pastor has also previously spoken publicly on national issues. In May 2026, she appealed to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over the proposed development of the Jabi Lake recreation area, describing it as an important public space.
