The Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, has disclosed that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing of a 300-level Biochemistry student of the institution, Mr. David Ocholi Solomon.
Professor Usman said the suspects were apprehended by the university’s internal security team within two hours of the incident and subsequently handed over to law enforcement authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Vice-Chancellor gave the assurance during a condolence visit to the family of the deceased in Lokoja on Friday, June 12, 2026, where he led a delegation of the university management.
He described the incident as tragic and distressing, noting that he received news of the student’s death while attending the 35th Annual National Conference and Convention of the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA) at the University of Ibadan.
According to him, the incident has thrown the entire university community into mourning.
Professor Usman conveyed the condolences of the university management, staff and students to the bereaved family, describing the death as unfortunate and unacceptable.
He reiterated the institution’s zero-tolerance stance on cultism, violence, criminal activities and other forms of anti-social behaviour capable of threatening the safety and aspirations of students.
The Vice-Chancellor said the university had strengthened security surveillance across the campus and surrounding communities to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
He added that additional security measures and reforms would be unveiled in the coming days to further enhance safety within the institution.
Professor Usman assured parents, guardians and members of the public that the university remains committed to providing a secure and conducive environment for teaching, learning and research.
He also pledged continued collaboration with security agencies to maintain peace and security within and around the university community.
The Vice-Chancellor urged the deceased student’s family to remain strong during the difficult period and to support ongoing investigations by providing any useful information that could assist security agencies.
He also appreciated Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his support towards the security of lives and property in the institution.
Professor Usman further commended the efforts of the Ogohi-Onuh Anyigba, Alhaji Abu Shaibu Okolo, the Chairman of Dekina Local Government Area, John Urah Ikani, and security agencies for their contributions to peace and security in the university.
Responding on behalf of the family, the father of the deceased, Mr. Solomon Idachaba, thanked the Vice-Chancellor and the university management for the condolence visit and support.
He also commended the institution’s swift response to the incident and expressed confidence in efforts to ensure justice is served.
