Lagos NSCDC Seeks Security Education In Schools To Check Violent Attacks On Institutions

LAGOS – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Commandant, Mr. Adedotun Keshinro, has emphasised the significance of security education in schools as a means of safeguarding them against violent extremism, kidnapping, abduction and other forms of attacks.
Mr. Keshinro, spoke in a keynote address at the 7th Edition of the NSCDC Lagos Public Relations Clinic in Lagos, themed: ‘Security and Safety of Schools in Lagos: The Roles of Government NSCDC and Stakeholders’.
Mr. Keshinro, who was represented by DCC Jimoh Sulaiman, charged all stakeholders to embrace collective responsibility, vigilance and professionalism in order to put an end to the violent attacks and tragic experiences being witnessed by schoolchildren in areas where such attacks have occurred across the nation.
These were contained in a statement signed by NSCDC Public Relations (PRO) Superintendent Oluwaseun Bolurin.
It stated that the event also featured distinguished guest lecturers, Professor Waziri Adisa and Dr. Cynthia Gregg, who presented papers on the theme, while Comrade Akintoye Hassan served as the lead discussant and further enriched the discourse.
One of the lead speakers, Professor Waziri Adisa, advocated a whole-of-society approach as part of the solutions to ensuring the safety of schools across the nation, particularly in Lagos State.
Professor Adisa affirmed that security in schools is essential because it guarantees learning continuity, builds public confidence, promotes social stability and supports national development.
