TCN Foils Theft Attempt, Recovers Transmission Tower Components in Bauchi

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has foiled an attempted theft at its 330/132kV transmission substation in Bauchi, recovering 12 transmission tower angle irons and a vehicle allegedly linked to the incident.The incident occurred at about 9:34 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026, when security personnel at the substation reportedly intercepted suspected vandals attempting to remove critical transmission tower components.

According to TCN, the suspects fled after sighting the security guards. A subsequent inspection of the area led to the recovery of 12 tower angle irons, a heavy-duty metal measuring scale and a white pickup truck allegedly used in the operation.The recovered items and vehicle were handed over to the Railway Division Police Station in Bauchi for further investigation.

TCN said no equipment was stolen and no injuries were recorded during the incident.The company commended its security personnel for their prompt response and vigilance, which it said helped prevent the theft or damage of critical power infrastructure. TCN also urged residents of host communities to report suspicious activities around power installations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.
