The men and operatives of the Anambra Police Command have arrested three women suspected of being involved in child trafficking.
They are: Florence Nnazuike, aged 45, Hannah Ugaha, aged 52, and Chinasa Daniel, aged 27, respectively, as they were arrested at a motor park in Onitsha by operatives of the Awada Divisional Headquarters.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the state’s police spokesperson, said investigations revealed that Daniel allegedly brought two children—a two-week-old baby and a four-year-old child—on separate occasions between June and December 2025 and handed them over to Ugah.
According to Ikenga, Daniel further disclosed that the four-year-old child was subsequently handed over to Nnakuzie and allegedly sold for N2 million, while the infant was reportedly sold to another woman who is currently at large.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for thorough investigation, as the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, described child trafficking as a grave violation of human rights and a crime against humanity.
Orutugu also ordered operatives to intensify efforts to arrest other members of the trafficking syndicate, rescue the trafficked children and reunite them with their biological families. He commended members of the public whose timely information led to the arrests and urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence.
