A Nigerian man has been deported from Indonesia for not having proper travel or residence documents.

Immigration officials at Tanjungpinang Detention Centre disclosed on Thursday that the Nigerian was deported on Tuesday, August 18, through the airport in the capital area.

He couldn’t show immigration officers a valid travel document or residence permit, which violates Indonesian immigration law.

Before being sent back, he was held at the detention centre while authorities confirmed his identity and got his travel papers in order.

An official from the detention centre said the deportation was a standard administrative action against foreigners who break Indonesian immigration rules.

The entire process was handled professionally, safely and fairly, he said.

A Palestinian national was deported at the same time for overstaying in Indonesia, which also violates immigration law.

The head of the detention centre said these deportations are part of enforcing immigration laws and keeping order regarding foreigners in the country.

Immigration law enforcement is necessary to protect the nation, but it must remain professional and guided by humanitarian principles, he said.

All foreigners are required to follow Indonesian immigration laws.

Those who violate them will face appropriate administrative action.
