Osun: ADC Congratulates Adeleke, Demands Explanation From INEC Over IReV Interruption

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in Saturday’s governorship election, describing the outcome as a victory for democracy and the people of the state.

The party, however, demanded an explanation from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the reported interruption in the uploading of election results on the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) during the collation process.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said Adeleke’s victory was significant because, according to the party, it was achieved despite what it described as “overwhelming intimidation and the massive deployment of state power” by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The party also commended opposition leaders and supporters who, it said, worked together to defeat what it described as “APC tyranny.”

The ADC said the election demonstrated that “no political machine is greater than a determined electorate,” adding that when citizens were determined to choose their preferred political direction, the ballot could still prevail.

It said the outcome was particularly significant given the level of political mobilisation by the APC ahead of the election.
