Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi has described the current cost of petrol in Nigeria as unacceptable, promising to introduce a new approach to reduce the price.

Obi made the statement while speaking on the rising cost of fuel and its impact on Nigerians.

“The cost of fuel in Nigeria today is unacceptable. We will introduce our own approach to bring down the price,” Obi said.

His comment comes amid renewed discussions over petrol pricing and how a future administration could make fuel more affordable for Nigerians.

Obi’s running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, recently said an NDC government would introduce its own form of subsidy, including possible government investment in additional refineries to increase domestic production and reduce petrol prices.

The issue has become a major point of discussion ahead of the 2027 presidential election as petrol prices remain a significant concern for households, businesses and transport operators. Recent reports put petrol prices at about ₦1,400 per litre in Lagos and Abuja.
