PDP Expels Mailantarki, Garry in Gombe Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

Opposition Party Cites Constitutional Violations, Warns Leaders Against Indiscipline and Conduct Capable of Undermining Its Unity

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled two of its prominent leaders in Gombe State, Khamisu Mailantarki and Usman Garry, over alleged anti-party activities and other acts of misconduct.

The expulsion was announced by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Jungudo, in a statement, following the findings of its Disciplinary Committee and subsequent consideration of the report by the appropriate party organs.

According to the PDP, the offences allegedly committed by the two politicians violate Sections 58(1)(a), (b), (h) and (j) of its constitution, as amended in 2017.

The provisions address various forms of misconduct and activities considered capable of bringing the party into disrepute.

The party maintained that the disciplinary proceedings were conducted in accordance with the principles of fair hearing guaranteed under Section 57(6) of its constitution and Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.

Invoking Section 59(1)(j) of its constitution, the PDP declared that Mailantarki and Garry had ceased to be members of the party and would no longer enjoy any rights, privileges or benefits accruing to its membership.

The opposition party also used the development to issue a fresh warning to its members, insisting that political influence, position or status would not exempt anyone from its disciplinary framework.

“No member, regardless of status, is above the Party’s laws and disciplinary framework,” the statement declared.

It further reaffirmed the supremacy of its constitution, stating that its provisions remained binding on every member.

“The Party reiterates that its Constitution remains supreme and binding on all members,” Jungudo added.

The PDP urged its members across the country to remain loyal, disciplined and committed to the party’s ideals, stressing the need for unity and stronger organisational structures at all levels.
