The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), in collaboration with the Healing Hands Foundation, has commemorated the 2026 International Women’s Day in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, with calls for women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship and greater awareness of their rights.
The event, held at Ayason Event Place, Ekeki, had the theme, “Rights, Justice, Action for All Women and Girls.”Declaring the event open, the Director of Culture and Women Affairs, Mrs Amuna Fedelia Emoni, described women as courageous resource managers and urged men to support their advancement.
Speaking on business growth and sustainability, the Board Secretary of the Niger Delta Chambers of Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Chief Solomon Edebiri, advised aspiring entrepreneurs to understand their target markets, regulatory requirements and compliance obligations. He identified access to finance, legal knowledge, strong branding and talent retention as important factors for sustainable businesses.
Other speakers addressed entrepreneurship, export procedures, product packaging and regulatory compliance. They urged women to acquire relevant skills, register their businesses and obtain necessary certifications for local and international markets.The Bayelsa State Coordinator of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Mrs Sylvia Adenuyi, encouraged women interested in export to explore opportunities in non-oil products and comply with global certification requirements.
The event also featured discussions on personal development, moral values and the need to protect the rights of women and girls. The Healing Hands Foundation thanked NDDC Managing Director, Samuel Ogbuku, for partnering with the organisation to commemorate the event.
