Osun Monarch Urges President  Tinubu Against Rigging Governorship Election In Favour Of APC.

The traditional ruler of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to play a fatherly roles in the August 15th 2026 Governorship election in the state.

The monarch made the appeal in Ede, Osun State during the commissioning of the dualisation of 9.3 kilometres Akoda–Baptist High School–Oke Gada Road in Ede by Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Addressing visitors, subjects, and dignitaries at the event, Oba Lawal said the people of Osun should be allowed to vote according to their conscience.

According to him, “We want to appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to rig the Governorship election in favour of APC. He should leave is alone and allow each of us to vote where we so desire.

The monarch further charged his subjects and residents of Osun state to vote massively for governor Ademola Adeleke.

He expressed confidence that the Accord Party would emerge victorious in the election.

“We are using this opportunity to appeal to President Bola Tinubu not to rig the governorship election. He should leave us alone and allow each of us to vote where we so desire,” the monarch said.

The traditional ruler also recounted an encounter with the governorship candidate of the APC, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, at a social event in Offa, Kwara State, where, according to him, he was displeased by songs allegedly rendered by some supporters.

Oba Lawal said he considered the chants offensive to the people of Ede, adding that he subsequently prayed over the development.

Reacting to reports that he allegedly avoided receiving APC leaders during a visit to Ede, the monarch denied the claim, insisting that he was outside the town on the day in question.

The Timi called on residents of Ede to participate massively in the August 15 governorship election, urging eligible voters to come out in large numbers to exercise their civic responsibility.

He expressed optimism that Ede would record a high voter turnout and reaffirmed his support for Governor Adeleke’s re-election bid.

Speaking, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, described the project as another fulfilled promise aimed at improving transportation, boosting economic activities and enhancing the quality of life of residents.

Adeleke said the strategic road links major residential communities, schools and markets while connecting Ede with roads leading to Osogbo and Ibadan, making it a critical infrastructure project for the ancient town.

According to him, the dualisation would ease traffic congestion, improve safety, stimulate commercial activities and strengthen security through the installation of solar-powered street lights.

“This is a promise kept and governance that truly touches the lives of the people. With this dualised road, movement within Ede will be faster and safer, businesses will thrive, students and workers will get to their destinations more easily, while security will improve with adequate lighting,” the governor said.

He noted that the project forms part of his administration’s infrastructure renewal programme being implemented across all parts of Osun State, adding that similar projects are ongoing in Osogbo, Ila, Iwo, Ile-Ife and Ilesa.

Governor Adeleke commended the Ministry of Works and the contractor for delivering what he described as quality work that meets approved standards, before officially declaring the road open for public use.

He also expressed appreciation to the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal Laminisa I, the traditional council and residents of the town for their support and patience throughout the construction period.

The event, however, took a political turn as the governor appealed to President Bola Tinubu to ensure that the August 15 governorship election in Osun State is conducted freely and fairly.

“I appeal to President Bola Tinubu not to rig the governorship election. Let the people freely vote for candidates of their choice. By the grace of God, the Accord Party will emerge victorious,” he declared.

The governor also dismissed what he described as political propaganda against him, insisting that no amount of opposition campaign would diminish the support he enjoys in his hometown and across Osun State.

Addressing residents of Ede, Adeleke urged them to come out en masse during the governorship election, expressing confidence that the town would deliver overwhelming votes in support of his re-election bid.
