A 400-level student of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has been arrested over allegations of cult-related activities, including attempted forced initiation, assault, and threats against another student.In a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Uredo Omale, the suspect was identified as Adejo Elisha Ojonimi, a 25-year-old Economics student.
According to the university, Ojonimi was apprehended on June 19, 2026, by members of the Vigilante Service following a complaint from a student in the Department of Food Science and Technology.The complainant alleged that the suspect pressured him to join a cult group reportedly known as the Black Axe Confraternity. He further claimed that after refusing the request, he was assaulted and threatened, forcing him to leave his residence and remain in hiding before reporting the matter to authorities.The university said preliminary investigations revealed visible injuries on the complainant at the time of the report.
According to the statement, investigators also examined the suspect’s mobile phone and reportedly recovered information considered relevant to the ongoing investigation.The institution said the suspect has been handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation and possible prosecution. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman commended security personnel involved in the operation and reiterated the university’s zero-tolerance stance on cultism, violence, and other criminal activities within and around the campus.The allegations remain under investigation, and no court has made a determination on the matter.
