BY NSE ANTHONY-UKO and JAMES KWEN, Abuja

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has said the Public Sector CEO of the Year 2026 award conferred on its Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr Bashir Bayo Ojulari, by LEADERSHIP Newspapers, is a collective achievement of the national oil company’s workforce.

Also, the Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed excitement over the nomination of the party’s national leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, by LEADERSHIP for the Politician Of The Year Award.

NNPC’s chief corporate communications officer, Andy Odeh, in an appreciation letter commended LEADERSHIP Newspapers for its insight and objectivity in recognising the company’s strides in driving profitability, developing gas infrastructure and ensuring prompt statutory payments to the Federation.

Odeh said the achievements were not the result of the GCEO’s personal efforts alone but represented the collective work of the executive Vice presidents, management and staff who, he said, show up daily to keep Nigeria’s energy sector moving.

He added that NNPC Ltd accepted the award with humility, aware that much work remained ahead, describing it as a morale booster that would spur the company to do more for the nation. Earlier, in a post on his verified X handle, Ojulari shared the news of the award and thanked his executive vice presidents, staff and stakeholders.

“This isn’t a one-person win,” he wrote, adding that the recognition “belongs to them too.” He also said, “We still have work ahead.”

LEADERSHIP Newspapers, in its announcement, cited NNPC’s performance under Ojulari in the first half of 2026, including N19.04 trillion in revenue and N2.28 trillion in profit after tax, as well as progress on key gas infrastructure, such as the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) and Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) pipelines.

The company’s monthly performance data showed the N2.28 trillion profit after tax recorded in the first six months of 2026.  Between January and July, NNPC remitted N7.913 trillion in statutory payments to the Federation Account, with N1.627 trillion paid in July alone.
